The History of Kronenfeld Comics
By Aaron Kronenfeld with Jeff

Jeff's First Comic

Jeff originally started off by both drawing and writing by himself, my only function was to say it was good or funny when he asked for my opinion.  He had his first idea for a comic back when he was in fifth grade.  He had dreams of making comics for real newspapers, so he made comics in that format.  His first comic took place in ancient Greece.  The main character was a student named Icharus who's hair had been turned into metal in an unfortunate accident.  He was a loser at school and always managed to get into trouble.  His grandfather, Daedalus, was a kooky inventor who would assist Icharus in getting into trouble by using him as test dummy(misspelled in the picture).  Icharus also had a father who was a politician named Talos trying to move his way up the political totem pole.  Jeff also designed a cat character who he made because he use to believe that every comic needed a cute animal(seriously, that was his only reason).  The only character who's design remains is Talos, who's body became the basis for Commodore Taurus.  He only drew a few comics, though he had some more ideas.  One story he thought of was having Icharus getting lost with a Boy Scouts like group, and having to use his hair as a compass.  Jeff worked with this idea for a few months, but ended up abandoning comic making until Sophomore year at high school.

The First Coming of Sisyphus.

In his second year of high school, Jeff decided to join the school newspaper.  He soon discovered that he couldn't stand writing articles, so he decided to instead become a cartoonist.  For those not familiar with Greek mythology, Sisyphus was a man who's punishment, given by the gods, was to push a boulder up a hill.  Whenever he got the boulder to the top, it fell down the other side, and Sisyphus would have to push it up the hill again.  Jeff likened going through high school to Sisyphus's eternal punishment, so he named the main character Sisyphus.  The first strip made fun of a teacher, and became popular.  For the next year and a half, Jeff drew Sisyphus in High School, at which point he got bored and left the paper.

The Rejects

One weekend in April, Jeff and I were lounging around the house when he decided he wanted to do an online comic.  We decided to do it, and began working on an idea that we had discussed before.  It was about a loser superhero group.  The leader was going to be Mildly Temperate Man, who had eye beams which ranged from sort of chilly to slightly discomfortingly warm.  Another member was Snake Bite Man, who had been bitten by a snake and became deathly ill for the rest of his life.  There was also Slow Man, who could move super slow.  The last member we thought of was Bullemia/Anorexia Girl, who incredibly thin and sick.  At first we thought this idea had potential, but after a few days we decided to try another idea that Jeff had thought of before.  It was about a guy who found a genie lamp.  He used the first two wishes to make a the perfect room and to make it so that he could always be in it.  Since genies are suppose to find loopholes in wishes, so that nothing real ever happens, she makes it so that he can never leave his room.  Inside his huge room, was his super intelligent cat and a sentient computer with the brain of Stalin.  While it was a funny idea, we quickly realized that it would never would as a comic.  We were left with a desire, but no comic

The Birth of Empty Space

It was then that Jeff had a great gift.  What if aliens use humans to test beauty products like hunmans do on animals?  Naturally a group would arise who would want to stop this.  We decide that they abduct a human torun  tests on, and who would be better then Jeff's recent comic character Sisyphus.  From there we began toying with the idea and character designs, and eventually came up with the comic.  And as Paul Harvey would say: Now you know the REST of the story!
